HEALTH SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO OUR SENIOR CITIZENS

With advancement of medical facilities, better nutrition and improvements in Standard of Living and life style , health consciousness etc. , the life span of population throughout the world including India is on the increase. Consequently,  number  of  people living beyond 80 years and even 90 years are going up every year. While, no doubt,  this is welcome and happy situation, this fact raises a question as to whether we are prepared to provide adequate support and facilities to take care of these  ageing members of our Society.

    As on date, the answer is BIG NO.

In the past when the norm was Joint families, there was always some member in the house to take care of aged persons. With nuclear families and particularly when both husband and wife are going for Jobs, there is practically NO ONE to take care of aged persons. When the aged persons are down with minor illness, they can  some  how  manage with difficulty  and take care of themselves. But the situation becomes more and more difficult and poses a  serious  problem  when they are bed-ridden due to  reasons like fractures and other deceases which are age related . There is NO ONE at home to take care of these bed-ridden aged persons and attend to their needs like :

1)   Giving  timely food and medicines.

2)   Changing of diapers, dress , beddings etc.

3)   Time to time changing of their positions in the bed to avoid bed sores.

4)   Giving hot water fomentation, applying ointments etc.

5)   Giving  them,  at least , Sponge bath.

6)   Cutting their nails/hair periodically and  providing other support activities depending on individual health condition and requirements.

Providing trained Nurses to take care of these aged and sick patients  not only very, very costly and NOT-AFFORDABLE  by majority of our Households, but also it amounts to  under-utilising  their talents and training. The answer is to have lots of Certified Health Assistants in our villages, towns and cities, throughout the Country.

These Certified Health Assistants NEED NOT BE HIGHLY QUALIFIED. Even High-School drop-outs can be adequately trained in the above activities with Short-term Courses. Not only Youth but also middle aged persons can be trained. These trained and certified Health Assistants can be attached to all Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Clinics in every location and their services made available to aged patients at affordable cost. This will also generate Employment Opportunities to thousands and thousands of unemployed persons in our both Rural and Urban areas.

        We request both the Health Ministry and Human Development Ministry to get this Urgent Requirement  examined  by Experts and come out with a Compact Syllabus and  create adequate Training facilities throughout the Country. Training can  include  administering  Injection, Glucose, taking Blood-pressure, sugar levels etc.

What is happening in our Rajya Sabha is happening in the HOUSE OF LORDS also. The Upper Houses were created with the intention to moderate the view of Lower House since as ELDERS they were supposed to exercise their unprejudiced independent views and vote keeping in view ONLY THE NATIONAL INTEREST and NOT TO SERVE THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA. Time has come to revisit this matter and bringout necessary changes to the COMPOSITION OF UPPER HOUSES to justify their original intention. I suggest 2/3rd members can continue to be elected under present system to represent Political Parties and 1/3rd elected by various non-political associations like Camber of Commerce, Trade Unions, University Syndicates, Medical Association, Scientist Associations, Bar Council, Press Council, NGOs etc. This will strengthen Parliamentary democracy.

ONE RANK ONE PENSION FOR EX-SERVICE PENSIONERS          

Till the year 1973, the above OROP concept was practiced in India.

As per CPC-3 views the then Govt. of India under Smt. INDIRA GANDHI

Abolished this Practice   which was strongly protested by Defence  Personnel but  with NO RESULT.

Now that Govt. has in principle agreed to re-implement this Concept and the bottleneck seems to be huge financial burden (8000+ Crores per year) and also

genuine fear how this concept can NOT be limited to Defence Pensioners alone and If it is to be eventually implemented for all Central and State Governments Pensioners, what will be the financial impact on our country’s economy, since Pension Payments will be much more than Salary payments to serving Govt. employees.  The recent happening at Greece  is adding fuel to our genuine concern.

I, as not only as a Senior Citizen but also an Ex-service Pensioner since 1975 , thought over the matter and after considering all aspects  and also always reminding myself “I am Indian first” , has come out with a Proposal which should satisfy all  though not fully.

Since the Pensioners of earlier period have already enjoyed Pension Benefits for such a long period (i.e. much more than active service), they should feel satisfied with this proposal.

USE IT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SOCIETY !!

There can be no doubt that the advent of Information Technology has SHRUNK the  whole World into a Small Village !. This factual position was more than a decade ago!.  But as of Date, advancement in the technology, ever-growing innovative products, devices and applications has further shrunk the world and brought the  entire World  under ONE ROOF !!.  May be there are a number of Rooms;  but  the  Partition-Walls are not made of Bricks but of GLASS !!. Therefore, we are able to communicate, able to talk, able to see as if your dear-ones, friends and relatives are in the other Room just separated by a glass wall  (though they may, in fact,  live thousands of Miles away in different corners of the world)!.

We only cannot feel the touch of them!.  With the Speed with which advancement is taking place, in this field, such a Day is not far off when we can feel their touch, smell the food they are eating and  virtually catch the cricket ball, your grandson bats from across the world !.

“E” Mails, Twitters, Face Book, What’s-up, Skype, Hangout etc. made a VERY BIG difference in our life. We are able to keep in touch and update ourselves with everything happening in the world, every second!   Almost  instantly!. Let us enjoy and continue to enjoy the fruits of IT innovations….

But just think for a moment ! These very applications, devices have huge potential to become an  effective Tool for  Social change, to solve any Problems facing our  Society.  In the past, just to send a Petition to proper authorities with a mere 1000 signatures for solving a local problem, it used to take days and lot of efforts in addition to the cost. But to-day we can do this in just few minutes, sitting in your drawing room without any effort or Cost. If you Zero-in on the Problem and Right Solution thereof , draft the Petition with its solution, communicate it with all concerned through Face Book, “E” Mail etc. and send out the Petition  to the concerned  authority. This petition will be  followed  by thousands and even millions of mail from other concerned members of the society. The Authority will be left with no other options but to accede to the just demand made by thousands and millions. They can ill-afford to ignore the just demands of Millions of people.  

So the MAGIC KEY to solve any problem facing our Society, either small or big,  is in your OWN HANDS ! Make use of it for the betterment of our Society. All Citizens can participate in this effort !. Those with genuine problems (of course it has to be of common nature and not individual one) can freely and fearlessly express them, if possible with right solutions. All members who appreciate them and in agreement with the solutions can extend their support. There is no coercion, no compulsion and it is totally Voluntary.

I personally appeal to you all to extend your whole-hearted support to any common cause, if you are personally convinced about it, in any manner listed below:-

1)      If you only like the idea, share it among your friends and group members. Just ticking the “LIKE” as you  normally do for posts which are  posted in the Facebook, just for your information or entertainment, is not enough.

2)      If you fully endorse the view and like to participate in the campaign, sendout “E”Mails, Twitter messages to the address provided by persons initiating the campaign. Also request your friends and relatives to do so.

3)      You can also initiate new proposals to solve any local issues.

4)      You are welcome to suggest steps to improve the effectiveness of this redressel  system.
